🌸 How to Draw Flower Doodles

Drawing flower doodles is all about keeping it simple, playful, and fun — no realism or perfect proportions required! Whether you’re decorating your journal, practicing mindfulness through art, or adding a floral touch to a card or note, doodle flowers are a great place to start.

📝 Here’s a quick guide to get you started:

  1. Start with a Center – Most flower doodles begin with a small circle or shape in the middle.
  2. Add Petals Around It – Try basic round petals, pointed ones, or even heart-shaped petals. Keep them evenly spaced or play with symmetry.
  3. Layer It Up – Add more rows of petals, leaves, or decorative dots around the center.
  4. Add a Stem and Leaves – A simple curved line with a few teardrop leaves instantly completes the look.
  5. Decorate with Details – You can add tiny dots, lines, shading, or even combine flowers together in a bunch or border!

Frequently Asked Questions About Flower Doodles

What’s included in the free flower doodle templates?

The free pack is a fresh set of printable flower doodle templates — daisies, tulips, roses, poppies, sunflowers, lavender, cosmos, cherry blossoms, plus a few wreath and border layouts. Each shape is broken down clearly enough that you can copy it straight into your sketchbook without needing to figure out where to start.

How do I download the free templates?

Drop your email into the form on this post and the download link lands in your inbox a minute or two later. If it doesn’t show up, peek in your promotions or spam folder — sometimes the first email hides there. Adding hello@artsydee.com to your contacts keeps future printables coming to your main inbox.

Which flowers are easiest to start with?

Daisies and tulips. A daisy is five to seven thin petals around a small circle — almost impossible to draw badly. A tulip is a softened tea-cup shape on a stem with two long leaves. Once those two feel comfortable, move to roses (a spiral that loops back on itself) and lavender (a stem with little dots tapering to a point). Sunflowers and peonies are the next step up because they layer more petals.

What pens and supplies work best for doodling flowers?

A black fineliner is the workhorse — Micron pens (sizes 01 and 05) give clean, consistent lines that won’t bleed. For colour, Tombow dual brush pens are forgiving and fast, and Prismacolor Premier colored pencils give a softer, layered finish. Strathmore Bristol paper handles all three well without bleed-through. If you’re just starting, any pen and any notebook will do — fancy supplies aren’t the thing that makes the doodle look good.

Do I need to know how to draw to make these work?

No. Every doodle in the pack is built from basic shapes you already know how to draw — circles, ovals, teardrops, spirals, and short straight lines. The trick is repetition: draw the same daisy ten times in a row and the tenth one will look noticeably better than the first. Doodling is a low-stakes way to build the muscle memory that makes drawing feel easier across the board.

Where can I use these flower doodles?

Anywhere a small drawing makes a page feel more alive — bullet journal headers and dividers, planner margins, handmade greeting cards, gift tags, recipe books, scrapbook pages, envelope decoration, lettering practice, watercolour reference, or as warm-up sketches before a bigger drawing session. They also work beautifully as repeating border patterns or as the centrepiece of a hand-drawn wreath.

Can I sell things I make with these flower doodles?

Original sketches, cards, and artwork you draw using the templates are yours to keep, gift, or sell as one-of-a-kind pieces. The templates themselves can’t be resold, redistributed, or built into printable products you sell. If you want a commercial license to use the line work in templates, kits, or client projects, that’s included with The Vault at £45/month.

Where can I find more flower doodles and drawing templates?

A new set of drawing and watercolour templates drops every Monday inside Patreon — floral, botanical, seasonal, and reference sheets across every style. Tier 2 unlocks the full back-catalogue plus the weekly new release, so the flower doodles here are a tiny slice of what’s there.
