A snowflake on the kitchen window is one of my favorite little Christmas jobs, and with a printed template behind the glass anyone can draw one.

Quick answer: 5 free printable Christmas window templates (a snowflake, bauble, snowman, wreath and reindeer head) as an A4 PDF plus PNGs. Tape one behind the glass and trace it with a chalk pen.
I’ve put together 5 free Christmas window drawing templates in one printable PDF: a snowflake, a bauble, a snowman, a wreath and a reindeer head. Use them on glass with a chalk pen, or trace and color them on paper. And when you want a whole window’s worth, my full Christmas Window set has 36 more designs, including four big showpiece scenes.

Print at 100% on A4 (or “fit to page” on Letter), then scroll down to see every template with an idea for using it.

All 5 Christmas Window Templates at a Glance
Here’s the whole set on one page so you can see what you’re getting. Every template is one simple Christmas shape with a clear outline and plenty of white space, so it’s easy to see through the glass and easy to follow with a pen.

Want a closer look? Here are four of the pages up close: the wreath, the snowman, the snowflake and the reindeer head.

How to Draw on a Window with These Templates
Quick answer: tape the template to the outside of the glass facing in, trace from the inside with a white chalk pen, and wipe it off with a damp cloth after Christmas.
Print size and scaling
Each template fills an A4 page. On US Letter, tick “fit to page” and you lose almost nothing. For a big pane, print the PNG file larger at a print shop, or use your printer’s poster or tile setting to spread one design across two sheets and tape them together. For small panes, set the scale to 50%.
Drawing on the glass
Tape the printed page to the outside of the window with the drawing facing in, so you can see the lines through the glass from inside. Then trace over them with a white chalk pen or window marker. Can’t reach the outside? Tape the page to the inside, facing out, and draw on the outside of the glass on a dry day instead. Either way, test a small corner first. Liquid chalk usually wipes off with a damp cloth, and a drop of washing-up liquid helps if it’s been up a while. If you’re choosing a pen, my chalk marker guide will help.
Tracing onto paper
They make lovely paper templates too. Tape one to a bright window and lay your paper on top, or use an LED light pad at the kitchen table. Print onto thin card and cut the shapes out to make stencils, gift tags or a garland, and a pair of decorative edge scissors gives the snowflakes a pretty frosty edge.
Adding color
On glass, I like to keep the outlines white and fill only a few shapes with color: the wreath’s berries and bow, the snowman’s scarf. On paper, watercolor pencils are lovely for soft shading and a set of Ohuhu markers makes the bauble and the wreath’s bow really pop.

1. Snowflake Template
A big six-armed snowflake with a little hexagon in the middle and pointed, branching tips. It’s the classic window design, and the clean double outline is easy to follow with a chalk pen.
Trace three or four of them at different heights across a pane, then dot tiny “snow” between them with the tip of the pen.
2. Bauble Template
A round bauble with a cap and ring, two stripes and a simple flower band across the middle, plus a scalloped border with little dots near the bottom.
Leave the outline white and fill just the bands with a colored window marker for a stained-glass look.
3. Snowman Template
A friendly snowman in a bobble hat and a fringed scarf, with a carrot nose, coal smile, three buttons and twig arms.
Put him low in the window so he looks as if he’s standing on the window ledge, and add a few snowflakes above him.

4. Wreath Template
A round wreath of leaves with berry clusters and a bow at the bottom. The open middle leaves room for a name or a “Merry Christmas”.
Center it on a front door pane or a single window, and write a short greeting inside it in your best chalk-pen lettering.
5. Reindeer Head Template
A reindeer head in profile with big branching antlers, a gentle face and a little fur at the neck. It’s the most detailed of the free five, and the one people stop to look at.
Draw it in the top corner of a window, facing in, and add a red nose with a window marker if you like.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you draw Christmas pictures on a window?
Tape a printed template to the outside of the glass, facing in, then trace the lines from the inside with a white chalk pen or window marker. Fill in a few shapes with colored markers if you like. Test a small corner first; most chalk pens wipe off with a damp cloth.
What pen should I use to draw on a window?
A liquid chalk marker or a window marker made for glass. White is the classic choice because it reads like frost and snow. I’ve compared a few in my post on the best chalk markers.
Where can I get free Christmas window drawing templates?
Right here. Pop your email into the box at the top of this post and the PDF of all 5 templates comes straight to your inbox, along with a link to the 5 PNG files. You can also download it straight from the thank-you message.
What size are the templates?
Each template is a full A4 portrait page (2480 × 3508 pixels, 300 dpi). They print on US Letter too: choose “fit to page”. For a big window, print the PNG larger at a print shop or tile it across two sheets.
Can I use these templates in a classroom or shop window?
Yes. Personal and classroom use are both fine, and decorating your own shop window is fine too. Please don’t sell the files or share them online as your own.
Final Thoughts
Five simple shapes, one chalk pen and a bit of tape, and your window is ready for Christmas. Start with the snowflake, it’s the quickest, and see how far you get. A whole pane of snow, a wreath on the front door or a reindeer peeping in at the corner.
If you’d like the templates, pop your email in at the top of the post and they’re yours.
