To create this dreamy, soft wildflower aesthetic, here’s what I used:
- Whimsical Wildflower Junk Journal Kit (available exclusively on the Artsydee Creations Club via Payhip)
- Printable wildflower & bird templates from my Patreon
- Kraft brown packaging paper (I tore mine from an Amazon parcel!)
- Patterned scrapbook paper
- Washi tape for light adhesion and layering flexibility
- Watercolor paper + soft-toned watercolor palette
- Fine liner for ink detail
- Typewritten quotes (printed and torn by hand)
Step-by-Step Breakdown
1. Lay the Foundation
Start by adhering a piece of patterned scrapbook paper across your journal spread. This becomes the base layer. On top of this, I added torn kraft brown paper, creating contrast and an earthy texture. Washi tape helped me hold everything in place temporarily while I adjusted the layout.
2. Add Torn Watercolor Paper
Next, I layered scraps of watercolor and mixed media paper. I used some of these areas to trace elements from my Patreon templates — delicate wildflowers and a little bird — which I planned to paint later.
3. Paint with Watercolor
Using a muted palette of soft pinks, sage greens, dusty yellows and a touch of blue, I painted wildflowers directly onto the torn paper pieces. This technique gives the spread a hand-touched, vintage-meets-botanical look.
4. Add Details and Quotes
Finally, I placed printed quotes (typed and then torn out by hand) around the spread. These little snippets add a story-like feel and guide the viewer’s eye across the page. A small painted robin on the left-hand side brings the spread to life.
